Sea Wolf…

Sea Wolf “Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low” (Dangerbird)

Now this was a fantastic surprise. Sea Wolf is none other than multi-instrumentalist Alex Brown Church who is a former member of the indie-pop band Irving. While I actually have a couple of Irving albums and have happily enjoyed them, the band never really struck a memorable chord with me. However, Church strikes that chord instantaneously on Sea Wolf’s debut 5-song EP, Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low. Shortly after my first listen, I found Church’s songs stuck in my head for days. Church’s vocals and sometimes cryptic lyrics instantly remind one of Elliott Smith. However, Church and Sea Wolf have a whole lot more in mind than your typical Elliott Smith singer/songwriter worship. From acoustic songs to slices of Shins-styled indie pop to more angelic string-laden Arcade Fire type material, Church and Sea Wolf prove they are in no way a one trick pony. Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low is as glorious a listen as a 5-song EP can possibly be. Dangerbird is quickly becoming a powerhouse as Sea Wolf continues the label’s recent hot streak. For fans of introspective indie pop…look no further than Sea Wolf.
