Land Of Talk…

Land Of Talk “Applause Cheer Boo Hiss” (The Rebel Group)

Buy it at Insound!

Land Of Talk’s debut EP, Applause Cheer Boo Hiss, is a familiar, but rewarding listen. Touching on indie rock bands like Sonic Youth and Blonde Redhead the band shows a remarkable range on these seven tracks. The band is led by the sultry vocals of Elizabeth Powell. Powell’s vocals push the band’s brand of indie rock to great heights. Her voice echos the beautiful sounds of female vocalists like Cat Power and Feist. Imagine those memorable vocals fronting a superb indie rock band and it is plain to see why Land Of Talk come off as so promising. I am reminded on numerous occasions when listening to Applause Cheer Boo Hiss of the female-fronted Broken Social Scene songs. Land Of Talk’s songs do not have the same epic stylings of BSS though. The band’s songwriting is much more direct and fits more comfortably into the rock aesthetic. There is not a weak track here as the band consistently gets it completely right on their debut. The sky is the limit for Land Of Talk.

RIYL: Broken Social Scene, Sonic Youth, Blonde Redhead
