Voxtrot “Mothers, Sisters, Daughters & Wives” (Cult Hero)

This is my first exposure to the Austin, TX band Voxtrot. Mothers, Sisters, Daughters, & Wives is only the band’s second EP but it is an impressive listen. The band plays a wonderful mixture of sounds that falls somewhere in between brit-pop and indie rock. Modern comparisons can certainly be made to Ted Leo, Belle And Sebastian and Nada Surf. The band’s influences can definitely be tracked back to legendary bands like The Smiths as well. This is an incredibly mature EP for such a young band. All five tracks here are strong and show the band to have a wonderful range. This is one of those unique EPs that you can put on repeat and not be tempted to change it til your fourth or fifth listen. It’s that good. Look for bigger things in the future from Voxtrot as the band has recently signed to Play Loud Recordings.

RIYL: Ted Leo, Nada Surf, Belle And Sebastian
